Direct Travel To Montevideo And Via Buenos Aires
The Carrasco International Airport that serves Montevideo has direct flights to several Latin-American, US and European cities. For destinations without a direct flight there are connecting flights with large cities mainly in South America.
Another option is to fly to Buenos Aires (Aeroparque International Airport) and travel to Montevideo by ferry. The Buquebus ferry terminal in Puerto Madero is very close to the Aeroparque airport and offers a direct ferry to Montevideo. There are also Buquebus and Colonia Express ferries to Colonia del Sacramento city in Uruguay, including transfer to Montevideo by bus and arrival at the Tres Cruces Bus Terminal.

For Our Colleagues Traveling From Abroad: Transportation Options In Montevideo
- Arriving at Carrasco International Airport:
If you’re landing at Carrasco International Airport, the journey to downtown Montevideo is approximately 40 minutes by taxi and about one hour by bus. Official airport taxis charge around $55 USD and accept credit card payments. You can also opt for a public bus, which costs about $5 USD (to be paid in Uruguayan pesos). The airport provides several currency exchange services. Information about available bus lines can be obtained at the airport’s information desk. - Arriving at Montevideo Port via Buquebus:
The port terminal is conveniently close to downtown. We recommend taking a taxi from the port terminal to your hotel. If your hotel is situated near downtown, the taxi fare will be approximately $8 USD, and the journey should take around 10 minutes. You can usually find several taxis waiting at the Buquebus arrival area. Most taxis accept credit cards, but cash in Uruguayan pesos is also an option. Buquebus provides currency exchange services. - Arriving at Colonia Port from Buenos Aires:
Some participants will arrive at Colonia Port in Uruguay after traveling from Buenos Aires through cruise enterprises like Buquebus or ColoniaExpress. These services may include a bus transfer from Colonia Port to the Tres Cruces bus terminal in Montevideo.
From Tres Cruces to downtown Montevideo, taxi services are available for approximately $8 USD, and the ride takes around 10 minutes. Alternatively, you can take a public bus, which costs about $1 USD (to be paid in Uruguayan pesos). The Tres Cruces terminal includes a mall with multiple currency exchange services.
